RTG Dispatcher

RTGs at the right place, at the right time, in ocean container terminals

Your quay cranes are running full speed; RTGs from your fleet are deployed. How do you make sure that the RTGs are in the right block at the right time, and avoid waiting time for your quay cranes and prime movers, whilst still maintaining high productivity for your RTGs and limiting their idle time? The ARL RTG Dispatcher tells you where to and when to dispatch your RTGs!

It applies sophisticated math algorithms to yard driving rules and up-to-date TOS data to give you a detailed RTG dispatching scenario for the next hours with a step-by-step to-do list.

Graphical and table views relieve your operation planners from complex and continuous RTG dispatching by assigning recommended RTGs to specific current and planned moves. Run live scenarios of de-activating RTGs or assigning RTGs to housekeeping and validate that yard performance is not hampered.

ARL RTG Dispatcher:

  • Identifies a suitable RTG for upcoming yard moves based on planned quay crane moves and current yard activities
  • Dispatches RTG to a new block in advance taking into account the time required using yard geometry and driving rules (including the time required for 90/180º wheels turn)
  • Forecasts future RTG dispatching based on current QC and RTG performance
  • Minimizes RTG driving distances and time, maximizes number of moves per hour
  • Displays moves in all blocks on a time line
  • Shows current utilization for each RTG
  • Respects yard constraints like wheel turn limitations, blocked and under repair areas
  • Respects individual RTG constraints like wheel turn, back-to-back, height and OOG capabilities
  • Measures KPI, projected and actual productivity, mileage, adherence to the RTG Dispatcher's recommendation

The RTG Dispatcher is an active yard operations management tool for RTG operated container terminals.

Hot FAQ

How does RTG Dispatcher increase my productivity?

The RTG Dispatcher makes dispatching suggestions taking all planned activities on the yard into account using an mathematical model, so your RTGs spend less time driving and turning, and more time doing the actual work. Additionally RTG Dispatcher calculates individual RTG productivity allowing you to carry out your household moves when the RTGs are idle, or alternatively undeploying RTGs while still securing uninterrupted operations.

What does it cost?

Each terminal is charged a license fee in accordance with the size of the operations. The license includes one year free support & maintenance, which can be extended at a yearly cost of 15% of the license fee. Alternatively the RTG Dispatcher can be leased on a yearly plan.

Tools for Ports and Terminals

The family of tools for ports & terminals includes ARL Berthing Planner with add-ons, ARL Yard mini-Inventory, and ARL Resource Demand Manager.

ARL Yard mini-Inventory

The ARL Yard mini-Inventory keeps track of your container inventory and does simple planning tasks like load lists and gate-pick-up lists. See the Yard mini-Inventory portal for more.

ARL Terminal Berthing Planner

The ARL Terminal Berthing Planner plan your vessels alongside your berth graphically in space and time. See more on the Berthing Planner portal. Whilst the berthing planner support berthing regions and vessel type filters, berth unavailable zones reflecting repairs and crane break-downs, and draft and tidal restrictions, you can choose to add a quay crane planner add-on or the berthing optimizer minimizing the mileage required for your yard equipment servicing your quay cranes.

ARL Resource Demand Manager

The ARL Resource Demand Manager allows you to forecast and plan resources on your terminal. The built-in rules engine automatically forecast the resource demands according to vessel arrivals schedule. Resource planners can assign unnamed and specific resources to the vessels arriving/departing or to work shifts. Identity resource usages peaks in advance and take action. See the Resource Demand Manager portal for more.

ARL RTG Deployer

The ARL RTG Deployer determines the number of RTGs required for the next shifts to service your planned and yet unplanned quay cranes work by reflecting the yard impact time using an math algorithm.
See more on the RTG Deployer portal

ARL RTG Dispatcher

The ARL RTG Dispatcher tells you where and when to dispatch your RTGs ensuring that RTGs are always at the right place at the right time to carry out required work in due time for securing un-interrupted work from your quay cranes. Look for details on the RTG Dispatcher portal. If your fleet of RTGs have been acquired over time, you reflect the individual constraints like height, turning capabilities and more, ensuring only a suitable RTG is dispatched for a work order; you can supplement the automatic dispatching with your own instructions and you can choose the statistics add-on giving you detailed insight in the performance and activities from the past projecting relevant experience into future dispatching.

ARL Yard Clash Predictor

The ARL Yard Clash Predictor detects future yard clashes in advance allowing you to re-plan and avoid clashes and derived waiting time for other yard equipment as well as quay cranes. Details are available on the Yard Clash Predictor portal. Yard Clash Predictor portal
